Renault's new good looks

In the late 90s, early 2000s Renault's' design was daring and dashing. There had been some commercial "flops" but overall, Renault was on the buyers' mind. And then Renault slipped down the road of forgetful design. Just close your eyes and try to picture how a current Megane, a Laguna or a Clio look like...  you can't, can you?

But things seem to change. When at the Frankfurt Motor Show we were positively surprised what Renault had to show. On display were a number of concepts that all looked like honest hints of future lines and models. Some even looked like barely disguised previews of the next generation, like the Zoe which basically is the next Clio. And Zoe looks good, really. Quite muscular without the comical design ornaments of some competitors.

And then there is the new face. Not bad. The updated Twingo has really gained character and looks really good, as if reborn and not just face-lifted. The Twingos dominated the Renault stand. Renault also seems to have found some nice colours, like the golden yellow metallic, warm, fun, striking and fascinating. Or the sumptuous deep and dark purple metallic, which looks fresh, fashionable and yet it is a colour which won't look outdated in a couple of years.

And yes, my 1.96m frame fits. I'd like a purple metallic Twingo with either a panoramic glass roof or the old fashioned foldaway roof, I haven't decided yet. Oh, yes, as an RS version, thank you.
