Automental cars should be fun, sporty and sexy. And most of all they don't exist in the spec we like. Manufacturers often don't equip the cars with all the engines that could fit, because someone thought this makes sense. Or something spoils the design and it might be a spoiler. Or the interior is inferior :-) The wheels look awkwardly edgy ...
So we propose our automental version of a great car, that could be so much better. And our first one is a ... minivan, in this case the automental S-Max SAV RS (like the photo on the left). But hey it is already the best minivan there is, the Ford S-Max with the 5 cylinder engine. Not so great in fuel economy, but good fun and a nice sound. It is the best handling minivan, it 's got loads of space. The seating position is excellent.
Though there is something missing.
The whole thing looks a tad boring, drab colours. There are a few colours to choose from, but once you choose the must have Titanium trim, there is no more choice left. Just like in the old days Titanium stands for model T black. And the exterior looks a bit fuzzy. It needs cleansing to get rid of a few wrinkles in the front and the back (see photo on the left). It could do with some elegant touches. A little face-lift so to say.
Hang on. Remember when Ford presented the S-Max. They said that the concept resembles the final product apart from a few details. That concept was quite sexy and if you compare concept and the real thing, the concept had some bigger wheels (check), some nice interior colours and materials (check), clean and sporty front and rear bumpers (check) and a aluminium frame around the windows (check). The whole car looks sexy, sporty and elegant. It's called SAV, which explains the first additional acronym for our automental project.
Which leaves us with upgrading the nice 5 cylinder engine. Mmmhh wasn't there a great hatchback called Focus RS? Nice engine, some fancy anti-torque steer technology. That's the RS part of our project name. Done.
So here is our automental S-Max SAV RS in detail...
Exterior:
- sidepanels, front and rear bumbers SAV-style
- Loder 20' wheels (the ones of the SAV concept are a bit too big)
- Aluminium frame for the side windows
- matt metallic colours
- Leather & colour options: terracotta, lemon cream, pastell beige, ocre
- Consol with coloured leather or cloth instead of the aluminium.
- V5 2.5 bi-turbo (two turbo chargers instead of one)
- conversion to LPG / Autogas 270 to 320 BHP
- 4 cyl TDCi bi-turbo
- 220 BHP
- maybe as a later option a hybrid tuning (adding a mild-hybrid)
- a slip diff, maybe like the Focus RS
